According to a 2012 Annual Update report prepared by the Child Welfare League of America, entitled, “Alabama Children At A Glance”, there are more than one million children under the age of 18 living in the state of Alabama and more than 27% of these children live in poverty conditions.

Oftentimes, parents that are living on the poverty line are not able to provide the essentials that will help their child(ren) advance in social skills, school and career. These parents normally earn a minimum wage and many times, work two jobs just to put food on the table and have shelter for the family. So, this produces latchkey kids, children lacking attention and affection, poor grades in school and many other social and physical side effects.
Pulling together to help enhance the lives of children should be a goal of every adult in the United States today. All across the nation children are in constant need of love, nurturing, shelter, nutrition, education, and so much more! It is this thought and love for children that sparked the vision of Renda Wilson, founder of Helping Hand Children’s Center in Pinson, Alabama.

focusing on good nutrition and feeding children a low fat diet that includes fruits, vegetables, whole grain and lean proteins such as fish and low fat meat . limiting or eliminating the consumption of sugar, soft drinks and juices high in sugar consuming more water up to (8) glasses per day.
